Dean's and Bishop's Awards

The Guildford Area Committee is pleased to confirm the continuation of the Awards Schemes. The purpose of these awards is to extend the existing RSCM Voice for Life programme beyond the locally-awarded ribbons, and provide independent confirmation of the candidate’s level of attainment. The awards are open to singers of all ages.

The relevant Voice for Life stages for Dean’s and Bishop’s Awards are, respectively, Dark Blue and Red ribbon. Please note that a revised syllabus began in April 2008; for details of how to obtain a copy, please see below.

Dates

The examinations in 2010 will be on Saturdays 20th March, 3rd July and 6th November. The closing dates for entries will be 1st February, 1st June and 1st October respectively. Successful candidates can choose to be presented with their awards and certificates at the Guildford Area Choirs’ Festival in October by singing at the Festival.

Entries are dealt with on a first come, first choice basis; therefore, when the first choice Saturday is full, candidates will be offered alternative dates (usually up to one week before or two weeks after the published dates).

Fees

The fees for this year are £33 for the Dean’s Award and slightly increased to £38 for the Bishop’s Award, payable at the time of the application. This covers the supply of the appropriate medal, ribbon and certificate to the successful candidate. A refund of £10 will be made to unsuccessful candidates.
